Breast Cancer Care

Every year nearly 5,000 Londoners will be told the devastating news that they have breast cancer. Breast Cancer Care is here to ensure that anyone affected by the disease in London or the South East has the support that they need, at every stage of their breast cancer, so that no one needs to go it alone through a diagnosis.
With 35 years’ experience listening to people who’ve been there means Breast Cancer Care understand the impact this devastating disease can have and know how to respond. When a person’s breast cancer causes confusion, isolation and fear, they’re in touch with their needs and on hand with the support and information that can help. They bring people across the capital together, provide information and support, and campaign for improved standards of care. All their services are free.
The free and confidential helpline, local events and information sessions give women the most up-to-date information and advice and the translation services ensure that even people who do not have English as their first language can access vital support.
Samia al Qadhi, Breast Cancer Care’s Chief Executive, said: “Holding a Starlight Supper is the perfect way to bring friends, family and colleagues together for a fun night this February. You and your guests’ support will raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Care to ensure no one in London need go through a diagnosis of breast cancer alone.”

• £23 pays for a call to our helpline for up-to-date information on any aspect of diagnosis and treatment as well as confidential and sensitive support on the personal impact of the disease. Taking as much time as a caller needs, conversations can last more than an hour.
• £52 pays for us to support someone through the devastating impact of hair loss caused by some breast cancer treatments. Our personalised HeadStrong sessions offer guidance on all aspects of hair loss and scalp care, along with practice choosing and using scarves and hats. Each person receives an individual appointment giving them a safe and supportive environment in which they can begin to build their confidence and adjust to the impact of their treatment.
• £132 pays to connect someone going through breast cancer with a trained volunteer who has had a similar experience to them. We know how much reassurance and encouragement people can get from talking to someone who has been there, so we take care to find out the best match we can for each individual.
