A return to haggling?

Bank Holiday shoppers looking to save money could do worse than turn to haggling, research out today suggests.

Which.co.uk surveyed nearly 2,000 people, and found that almost three quarters had not tried haggling in the last year.

But those who had tried their luck had huge success, with 85% of people who haggled managing to get themselves some sort of discount.

Jess Ross, Editor of which.co.uk, said:

"It might not be a very British trait, but haggling could save you hundreds of pounds on the high street."

Listen to our news report

Reasons for people's reluctance to haggle varied - a 35% felt high street stores just wouldn't agree to lowering prices, 20% felt too nervous to try haggling, whilst 9% said that it wasn't very British!

For those brave enough though, it seems there are bargains to be had. Jess said:

"Pick your product and then arm yourself with the best prices you can find online and in other shops - you may be surprised at how responsive the stores are."
