A little bit about Maggie’s

At Maggie’s we are here for people living with any type of cancer, at any stage of their treatment and also for their friends, families and carers. At our cancer support centres we offer high-quality community-based cancer support that helps people manage the impact of a diagnosis and live with hope and determination. Our centres are calm, uplifting, inspiring places, where people come to feel at home, to find friendship, solace and practical help. People can access information on cancer and its treatment, emotional support, confidential counselling and advice or join regular timetabled group activities, such as relaxation and visualisation courses, nutrition workshops, and support groups.

Maggie’s London is based at Charing Cross Hospital in West London and since we opened in April 2008 it has been visited over 20,000 times by people from all over the capital. Over 4,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the West London area alone. We want to be there for every single person in London who needs us.

You may have heard Cathy Davies talking in our trailer about her experience of Maggie’s but at Maggie’s we are also here for people affected by another person’s diagnosis of cancer. Cathy’s husband John explained to us why Maggie’s was so important to him:-

"After receiving treatment for Breast Cancer at the Royal Marsden my wife Cathy needed support of a different kind. By chance a very good friend had seen an article on the Maggie’s Centre that had just opened in Hammersmith. Cathy was one of the first people to use this centre and she has had wonderful support both physically (massages etc.) and emotionally (support-groups and caring staff). I cannot thank them enough."

It would mean EVERYTHING to us to be chosen as Smooth Radio London’s Charity of the Year – it costs us around £500,000 a year to support Londoners from our beautiful cancer support centre in West London and we rely on people like you for every penny of that support.
